HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN SPINNER-THINGAMADOOHICKY

This is what you’ll need:

1 Heavy or medium-duty disco ball spinner, we prefer 1 revolution per minute. Some have variable speeds and some have a remote so make sure you check all the specs before you order. ↓

1 braided wire cable kit. ↓

1 GoPro Hero 8 Black. Admittedly, I know very little about these. This is the one that met the minimum specs that we wanted for quality and the ability to tweak settings. ↓

BOOM

This is the rail that we used but you can get creative with this. A dowel, curtain rod, PVC pipe, etc. will work as long as you can clamp your camera and a counterweight to it as well as affix the cable somewhere in the middle. This aluminum rail stuff is pretty awesome for a variety of purposes and we have a bunch of it lying around. You can butt it end-to-end and make it much longer. Remember, the longer the rail, the faster it will feel like the camera is traveling which might give your viewers motion sickness. We used about 8 feet of rail for the below video. ↓

SWAG and SWAG ACCESSORIES (if you need them)

That’s pretty much the whole thing. You’ll need to mount the spinner to something that is structurally substantial. We mounted it to a metal rail that is suspended perpendicularly to the roof trusses. We used cable ties to get it close to where we wanted and then secured it with stage line (also referred to as trickline). Once in position we used bolts for maximum security.
